About the expedition

What was done?

During our ninth expedition in the Tapajós region, our team focused on bringing essential medical services to riverside communities. Among the professionals, doctors conducted ultrasound exams, highlighting the urgent need for these among pregnant women and children awaiting surgery. Additionally, we had a psychiatrist identifying mental health needs, seeking integration with psychology for comprehensive care. With the collaboration of five volunteers, 261 procedures and consultations were carried out, and oral hygiene kits were distributed.

I was impressed by the number of pregnant women who arrive at their third trimester without having undergone any ultrasound examination.

Portable ultrasound device loaned by Siemens

Siemens supported Zoé by loaning a portable ultrasound device, used in examinations for adults and children treated by the Hospital Boat Abaré, including pregnant women who arrive at their third trimester without any prior ultrasound.

Mental health

Dr. Raquel participated as a psychiatrist, conducting consultations and assessing needs and challenges for a voluntary psychiatry service in the region. The goal is for Zoé to integrate psychiatry and psychology into mental health care.

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss

During the expedition, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss were distributed, and 3 volunteers were responsible for planning an ophthalmological expedition in December.
