A surgery takes a few hours. In the Amazon, waiting can take years.

Gallbladder, thyroid, fibroids, skin lesions: simple surgeries wait for years. Meanwhile, life goes on: work, sleep, family. We bring the surgical center to them.

    A real story

A story from the 26th Expedition in Belterra

Adriel needed to have his gallbladder removed. He was number 1,685 on the SUS waiting list and could no longer play.

His mother, Nikita, saw on television that Zoé was at the Belterra Hospital and went there without any guarantees. The team mobilized, and Adriel was operated on during this expedition.

With each expedition, we hear dozens of stories like Adriel's. For those who have waited for years, a simple surgery returns much more than just health: it returns playing, working, sleeping, and the life that had been on pause.

    Frequently asked questions

What kind of surgery does the 55th do?

Elective surgeries of small and medium size that can be safely performed in a municipal hospital and have predictable recovery: general surgeries (hernia and gallbladder), gynecological, head and neck (thyroid), and dermatological procedures. Cases requiring ICU or high complexity are referred to the reference network.

    Who chooses the patients?

The waiting list is organized together with the Municipal Health Department and Belterra's Municipal Hospital, based on demand already registered in Brazil's public health system (SUS). Zoé's team assesses each case before surgery.

    And after the team leaves?

Immediate post-operative care is provided by the team in the field; follow-up stays with the local network, with guidance from Zoé and a direct channel for questions. In Belterra, Zoé keeps a continuous presence through its other programs and the branch opened at the Municipal Hospital in 2026.

    Where does my donation go?

To this expedition: logistics, supplies, medicines, tests, team lodging and equipment. Volunteers are not paid. Zoé's accounts are audited by BDO and published.

Can I donate to a specific expedition?

Yes. Choose the expedition and donate on its page: your donation goes to that expedition's campaign.
