29th Expedition: Pink October in Belterra took place from October 5 to 12, 2024. During the expedition, 90 gynecological consultations, 668 rapid tests, 97 IUD insertions, 114 ultrasounds, and 104 Pap smears were performed. Additionally, 27 professionals were trained.
The Tapajós region has one of the highest maternal mortality rates and family size in Brazil.
During a full day of hands-on learning at the Amazon Science Museum (MuCA), we trained healthcare professionals focusing on improving women's health care in Belterra. The course was divided into four modules: STIs, short- and long-term contraceptive methods, and cervical cancer prevention.
On the last day of the expedition, the team visited the riverine communities of São Jorge and Piquiatuba, focusing on health awareness and education, especially for the female population. Activities included discussion circles on contraceptive methods, prevention of cervical cancer, and the importance of regular exams.
There were 90 gynecological consultations, 104 Pap smears, 97 IUD insertions, 668 rapid tests (beta HCG, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis), and 114 ultrasounds, aiming to reduce pregnancy-related deaths and support family planning.
