    About the expedition

Close attention to the population's mental health

Led by psychologist Ana Lúcia Castello, the expedition provided 115 psychological consultations using the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapeutic approach. The partnership with the Belterra City Hall and the Psychosocial Attention Centers (CAPS) of Belterra was crucial for delivering mental health services in the region. In addition to psychological consultations, the expedition included educational and support activities. On July 27, a roundtable discussion was held at the Belterra Museum of Sciences on care for neurodiverse children, creating a space for exchanging experiences and learning for parents, caregivers, and professionals. Also on the same day, psychologist Ana Lúcia delivered a lecture on reprocessing traumatic experiences in healthcare professionals using the EMDR Group Protocol. These events aimed not only at immediate treatment but also at strengthening the local support network and continuously improving care provided to the population.

It was essential for me. I feel stronger now to keep going with my work. — Romilda, community health agent

    What marked this expedition

    Intervention with healthcare professionals

On Saturday morning, our psychologists met with 20 healthcare professionals from Belterra at the Amazon Museum of Sciences (MuCA) for a group therapeutic session using the G-TEP technique from EMDR to help professionals reprocess their traumas, fears, and challenges faced in their work.

Roundtable discussion with parents of children with atypical development

During the roundtable, six parents had the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns, receiving practical guidance on how to manage daily challenges.

    Group consultation with children

On Sunday, we conducted a group consultation with 12 children, carefully planned to help them safely cope with their traumas while respecting each child’s pace. They showed significant improvement in handling their emotional difficulties.

    Who the team met

Photo for story 1 of the 28th Expedition: Continuing Mental Health Care

Donna Angela entered the therapy room with a heavy heart, full of sadness and unable to sleep properly for days. She shared everything she was feeling, tears streaming down her eyes, as the psychologist listened with care. Gradually, she began to feel lighter, as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. At the end of the session, Donna Angela looked at psychologist Mara with a smile. She expressed deep gratitude for the support and the chance to see things differently. She stated she was leaving feeling stronger and more hopeful than in a long time.

Community Health Agent (ACS) Romilda participated in a group workshop with other ACS members and later received an individual session with Dr. Ana Lúcia Castello. As an ACS, she understood the value of caring for others, but sometimes felt lost regarding her own emotions. During the conversation, Romilda vented about the pressures of her job and uncertainties in her personal life, and immediately felt relief upon being heard with empathy. At the end of the session, she warmly thanked Dr. Ana Lúcia and the ONG Zoé team for being there at the right moment. 'It was essential for me. I feel stronger now to keep going with my work,' she said, confident and motivated to continue helping her community.
