    About the expedition

Why did we perform endoscopies and hernia surgeries?

Hernia is the term used to describe the condition that occurs when an organ or structure exits its normal position. The most common hernias are inguinal and umbilical hernias precisely because these areas are more vulnerable, and with aging and increased strain, hernias can develop. Hernias can also occur in children due to failure of certain points to close properly, leaving them more fragile. Hernias may cause local discomfort or pain and can lead to complications such as incarceration and strangulation. Incarceration occurs when the herniated structure becomes trapped and cannot return to its normal position, while strangulation happens when there is compromised blood supply. In these situations, there is severe pain and emergency surgery is often required.

A 58-year-old patient had their blood pressure measured for the first time in their life and was diagnosed with hypertension.

Approximately 300 kg of donated medical equipment and supplies from various companies, along with 4 lectures delivered to 26 community health agents, with 3 academics and 2 residents on the team.

Blood pressure measured for the first time at age 58

We had a 58-year-old patient who had their blood pressure measured for the first time in their life and was diagnosed with hypertension. We also made 3 cancer diagnoses: 1 early-stage with an extremely high chance of cure.
